Adriena Šimotová - Images That Are Neither from Themselves Nor for Themselves: Reflections on Communication in the Artist's Work Mgr. Pavel Brunclík Abstract Adriena Šimotová is an outstanding figure in Czech visual arts and Czech culture in general. Beyond the aspects of art history, it may be useful to address the interpretation of Šimotová's life and work using the interpretive approaches of the philosophical thinking of her time. The focus of the present paper relates to the subject matter which strongly determines Šimotová's art: themes of communication, communicative relations, and the relationship between communication and imagery. This corresponds to the choice of authors whose texts are referred to: Martin Buber, Karl Jaspers, and Emmanuel Levinas. The first chapter addresses the formation of the artist's personality and the development of her creative orientation from her early years to the late 1970s. The second chapter discusses the key moments and elements of her artistic expression in the 1980. The third chapter presents the final stages of her lifelong work. An interpretive approach underpinned by references to selected works by the above authors appears useful. It demonstrates that the communicative aspects of Šimotová's art are vital for her and the interpretation of her work. I worked with...
Social aspects of the forced community in Terezin
Fictumová, Andrea ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
This study deals with aspects of the everyday social reality of the forced community in the Terezin ghetto in 1941-1945. It is a microsociological introspection of the life of the prisoners that lived in the ghetto. It aims to define social factors that influenced the lives of people that were stigmatized, fought for their lives and lived in border-line situations. The research part of the study uses biographical method. It uses 10 recorded testimonials of survivors - former Terezin prisoners. The research was carried out by means of partly structured interviews. The questions dealt with internal and external factors that created the daily reality of this forced community. The aim was to map their subjective perception of life conditions, social ties, both negative and positive factors and further personal utterances of the narrators. The testimonies serve for better and deeper understanding of the Terezin reality. The factors that affected the community in a negative way included fear of the unknown, fear of loosing close friends and relatives, very bad life conditions that strongly affected the negative mind-set of people and loss of moral values. In contrast, the positive factors included culture and sports that were welcomed by the prisoners as they allowed them to shift aside gloomy thoughts....

Terminal Situation in Proses of Jaroslav Havlíček
MALECHOVÁ, Ivana
In the novels Synáček, Neviditelný (Invisible) and Petrolejové lampy (Kerosene Lamps), written by the famed Czech author Jaroslav Havlicek, we will deal with the reception and interpretation of the extreme situations that the characters find themselves in. This phenomenon will be observed in the context of the philosophy of existence, especially with regards to the German philosopher Karl Jaspers as its leading exponent, and further with regards to one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century, German phenomenological philosopher Martin Heidegger. Further inspiration will be provided by the poetics of Daniela Hodrová and her view of characters connected to a certain place, as well as Gaston Bachelard and his poetics of space. Based on the mentioned aspects, we shall phrase a conclusion on which extreme situations are most often exhibited in Havlíček´s work and how we read them.
Child´s Hero in an Extreme Situation
KLACKOVÁ, Jana
This dissertation is devoted to the topic of Child{\crq}s hero in an extreme situation inspired predominantly by the Czech literature of the 1950{\crq}s and 1960{\crq}s. The essential material for my work was works of the following Czech authors: Arnošt Lustig, Karol Sidon, Josef Fuks, Jan Otčenášek, Ludvík Aškenazy a J.R.Pick. Besides them I also used books by the French writer Romain Rolland which I compared to the Czech works. The dissertation is divided into two parts. In the first part I devote myself to the concept of extreme situation itself. I try to define this concept from the point of view of psychology as well as to show its concrete manifestation in individual works. The second part deals with interpretations of the works in the framework of which I explore the issue of an extreme situation.
Didn´t butterflies live there? Memory of the holocaust
PATÁKOVÁ, Sabina
The purpose of the here presented degree thesis is the comparison of six memoirs, dealing with the "holocaust" phenomenon from the perspective of each single writer, with a critical eye on the way the experience has touched the author's sensibility. I have focused the attention on the latest works published on this particular matter. This graduation thesis is primarily based on Tzvetan Todorov's book "Facing the extreme: moral life in the concentration camps".
